President Ruto postpones tour of Ukambani region

President William Ruto has postponed his upcoming tour of the Ukambani region, following calls for broader consultation among leaders from Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties.

The President was also expected to officially unveil the Emali-Ukia Road and assess the progress of the Kibwezi–Kitui–Bondoni Road, with a focus on the Kwa Siku to Bondo section.
The decision to postpone the tour was made after a consultative meeting between President Ruto and Ukambani region leaders held at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua made the announcement in a statement on X, stating that it was agreed that more consultations were necessary before the tour could proceed.
"Following a highly successful consultative meeting with the President and senior government leaders from Ukambani, it was agreed that a broader engagement with Ukambani leaders should be held at State House before the planned development tour of the region," said Mutua.
"As such, the tour has been rescheduled, and new dates will be communicated after the wider leaders' meeting."

Mutua's sentiments were echoed by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, who noted that the new dates for the tour will be communicated after the broader meeting with Ruto, scheduled for May 21, 2025.
"Therefore, new dates will be communicated after the wider leaders' meeting," he said.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Ruto reiterated the ruling regime's commitment to inclusive development.
"We are aligning our development agenda with the priorities of the people through continuous consultation with leaders and stakeholders. Our objective is to deliver inclusive growth from the bottom going up," he said.
